Activities for free?

We all want the best for the children in our care whatever our budget - Thankfully I have found several ways of having fun with the children in my care that don't make a big impact on the kitty.

  • Sure start centres - set up in every town, sure start centres offer a variety of different activities such as baby yoga, arts and crafts, groups for children with special educational needs, lunch groups too - and all for free - they also put on outings like trips to the zoo!

  • The library not only can you keep warm on a cold wet day in town but also they offer free books to borrow, free books to read whilst you're there and also story and song times for toddler and pre-schoolers.

  • Check out your local art gallery - we are lucky enough at the moment for them to be operating a free art bus every Saturday where the children climb aboard a double decker bus and creat to their hearts content with a variety of art supplies.

  • Children's scrap store - we have one of these in town - haven't been yet but for a nominal charge per year you can go in and pick up a variety of art resources for the children to use at home.

  • The cinema runs a kids club every Saturday and Sunday - some places it's only a £1 others it's £2.50 but mostly parents/carers go free! Even if it's something you have on dvd - the cinema always makes it that much more exciting - but where to get your snacks now that Woolies has gone!!?!!

  • See what the council has running - sometimes the museums have come and play sessions with free colouring pages or just a chance to touch exhibits or get dressed up in their clothes.

  • Netmums is also fantastic - I have found out about free toddler walks at the local reservoires and parks.

Who says you have to stay at home to have fun for free!

Arts and Crafts

I love doing arts and crafts with children - I currently work with 1-2 year olds and we have a great time doing arts and crafts with each other.

  • Some examples of Outside arts and crafts
* water painting in the garden - 1 pot of water + 1 paintbrush = lots of fun
* body painting
* foot printing
* chalking

  • Some examples of Inside arts and crafts

* toy printing
* hand printing
* free art
* cup printing
* car rolling
* sponge and rollers
* collage
* glitter glue
* monopainting
* 3d art

My curriculum vitae

Summary

Since a very young age, I have always wanted to work with children, simply because it is rewarding and fun. I can go home at the end of the day knowing I have helped teach children something new whilst having fun yourself. It is also nice to be able to talk to the carers of the children about their achievements.

After leaving school, I decided to take a 2 year course at college studying towards a Diploma in childcare and education; which I really enjoyed although I found it challenging, and I am currently expanding my child care knowledge by studying towards an advance nanny qualification.

I am dedicated to providing the best for the children in my care, which includes:
*Providing a well balanced and nutritious diet
*Providing stimulating activities (art and craft, reading, music and movement, dancing, singing, outdoors activities and many more)
*Providing lots of social activities (music classes)

Nannying Experience
  • Family A - Jan 08 - Present
For the past year I have been working as a shared care nanny caring for 3 girls aged 1, 4 and 7. I work alongside their mother on a weekend and on family holidays. My duties iclude:

* Planning and implementing educational activities such as trips to the beach, museums, art and craft activities.
* Sole charge of baby from aged 4 months to include general care; bathing, feeding, making up formulas, sterlising bottles, teethers, as well as the caring aspects such as; taking the baby on walks, cuddles, singing and dancing.
  • Family B - Sept 04 - Present
I first met Family B in 2004 when I worked alongside the mother as part of my NNEB training - the children were 1,3,4 and 7 and have had sole charge of all four over the course of the past 5 years; from babysitting to allowing the parents a day out. My duties include:
* Cooking nutritious meals
* Planning and implementing activities to suit a wide range of ages; such as swimming, trips to the cinema etc.
  • Family C - Sept 02 - Present
I first met Family C in 2002 as an occassional Saturday babysitter which moved onto sole charge of the children during the day in early 2003. The children include C aged 5 at the time and B 3 (who has special educational needs) and baby A who arrived in 2005. My duties include:
* Cooking nutritous meals
* Planning and implementing activities to suit a wide range of ages and to cater for B's SEN's.
* Sole charge of the baby (from 2 days) including duties such as feeding, bathing, sterilising and entertaining.
